Form & Function: Jaremy's Mini Cooper S

Introducing Jaremy's 2007 Mini Cooper S. He picked it u back in February of 2011 and has been working on it since day one. The reason he chose a Mini is that he wanted to bring out a car you don't see modded too much while staying with an European brand. In fact, he's been in the Euro game for a while. He's previously modded Euro cars such as a MkV and an E30.

The direction he wanted to go with the Mini was a mix of form and function. He loves the way slammed cars look but equally loves driving his car hard. Being one of the first Minis with a K04 hybrid and many other performance mods gives him 300 whp to play around with. He's also tracked the Mini many times and claims it's a blast to drive. In fact he calls it a "street legal go cart." So far his favorite thing about the car is the coilovers and the tune and he wants to extract more horsepower out of the engine.

The feedback he gets from the Mini community is either love or hate. I doesn't bug him though and we definitely love the way it is. Besides tearing up the streets of Socal, you can see Jaremy at various meets and shows and hanging with the rest of the folks in Simply Low.

He's also a great griller and comes in handy when you need a helping hand during a BBQ. We didn't get to shoot some rolling shots but there is no doubt we will shoot the car again and get some rolling shots. Most people underestimate the Mini, but it's a humble, fun and different car that Jaremy enjoys.

Coverage: WFC Santa Monica Meet 2/25/12

This past Saturday was the much anticipated Wrong Fitment Crew End of the Trail meet at Santa Monica beach. As a stance meet, lowered cars from different makes and models show up and people as far as Arizona, Nevada and Nor Cal attended. People arrived as early as 6am and stayed til pretty late in the day. The quality of cars was astonishing and the number of immaculate cars was also surprising.

We woke up at 6am to leave with a small caravan at 6:45am from Riverside and decided to meet with some fellow Audi and Volkswagen enthusiasts at Tommy's Burgers in Santa Monica.We made it to the lot at around 845am and there was still a lot of parking. Sadly we got split up from our small caravan and parked in different locations.

Huge flows of slammed cars began entering the lot and by 10:05 AM the lot filled up and closed, literally 5 minutes after the supposed start time of 10am. The street near the lot started to become congested and full, creating traffic and no way for regular traffic to get by. Cops surely wouldn't be too far away....Cops arrived at the premises directing traffic and walking towards the meet. They began telling people to take down their EZ ups and shut down the meet due to a large amount of people in the lot. We barely got the grill going when the cop said we had to take everything down!

Fortunately no tickets were given but a majority of people left the meet, after they paid the 8 dollars for all day parking. Sadly, I didn't get to do one lap around to see all the cars but Manny was able to take a few snaps before everyone rolled out. Instead of leaving, the Simply Low crew and I decided to move the EZ ups and grilling to a park literally across the street. We spent the day hanging, , grilling and drinking a few beers.A small fraction of the meet actually stayed in Santa Monica where the weather was nice.

While the meet was awesome and fun, there was a few issues that will hopefully make the next meet better. Other than that, thanks WFC for putting this meet on. We look forward to the next one.

So what do you do when Manny isn't around to take all the great snaps? You pick up your old Digital Camera and attempt to get some good shots! Meets are usually small but it's more of a hang out then a meet.

One Clean Classic: Patroni's 2002

This past Friday, we got the chance to shoot and feature Matt Patroni's 1972 BMW 2002 in Los Angeles. Manny and I fell in love with the car from the moment we saw it roll up. The reason we fell in love is that its nothing extreme and since its a classic. There's no crazy camber or huge rims, but enough to keep it clean and elegant, the way a classic BMW should be.

Matt picked up the 2002 one and a half years ago from his uncle where it was just rotting away. While he was lucky enough to find a 2002, hes been having to fix something on the weekly. During the shoot, Matt had to start the car up a couple of times since his fuel pump wasn't working properly. Though Matt knows the difficulties of owning a 40+ year old car, it doesn't dissuade him at all. In fact, he loves everything about it and it doesn't hurt that his dad is a mechanic.

When you look at the exterior, there isn't much going on except for an Ireland Engineering front spoiler bolted on, blacked out grilles, and custom widened rear fender flares. He wanted to go for a clean OEM+ look and we're digging it. After going to Nissan meets with his cuzins and seeing slammed cars, he wanted to go low. He didn't think he could go very low until he saw Rob's famous cheetah print 2002.

The front of his car rocks custom coilovers with shortened Bilstein struts and B&G springs and the rear has B&G springs with Bilstein sport shocks. 13x8 all around Rota RBs were then added to compliment the low with 215 50 rubber. To get the stance that he wanted, 10mm spacers were added in the rear to get a final offset of 4 in the front and -6 in the rear. It shows you that you don't need fancy, big wheels to create a great look.

The interior is kept simple as well. It's stock except for a Grant steering wheel w/ quick release and a custom shift knob. He's thinking of adding bucket seats, but we love the interior as it is. Its been holding up quite well for more than 4 decades. As for under the hood, the stock four cylinder M10 engine is in place, but plans for a the inline six M20 engine swap are aboard.

When we asked what was the least favorite part of the car, he responded "the problems and headaches it gives me." We also asked him what his favorite part of the car was and he quickly responded, "The way it drives. Its a small, old car that's fun to drive." This is also Matt's first car and he never plans to sell it. I guess you can't go wrong with a clean classic as your daily driver.

GTI caught in a Webb

We're honored to introduce you to Webb's MkII Volkswagen GTI. Webb's MkII is just one of those cars you see at many meets and shows that always have spectators drooling. He's been a Volkswagen enthusiast since he picked up his 1990 Jetta in 1994 at the age of 18. He's owned about 11 Volkswagens since then and has always supported the Socal Euro scene as a member of German Exclusiv.

This whole story starts of with a SRT4. Yes a Dodge. The SRT4 was won at a driving school which at first he couldn't believe he had won. After he picked up the Dodge, he decided to sell it and that allowed him to pick up the GTI. Webb picked up the stock red MkII in 2003 and has been working on it since then.

Lots of time, work and money was required in order to achieve the clean look. When I asked Webb what was the favorite part of his car was he responded with "Driver side wiper delete." This small thing was his favorite part of his ride showing how much attention to detail he has. He even pointed out how he had to redo the plastic fender flares, which I thought looked good.

So much work has been done to the GTI that we have organized it in a list near the end of the post. Some of our favorite things about his ride are the custom roll cage, beautiful BBS E50 wheels, VR6 swap and the crispy Sport Classic Grey paint from a Porsche 997.

Webb is nearly done with the project and only has a few things left to do such as repainting the engine bay and fixing his Corba racing seats. Once done, he hopes to work on his next project, a Mk2 Scirocco. We can't wait to see what he does with the rocco and hopefully feature it on here!

Webb has created a clean, shaved, GTI powered by a 12v Vr6 that we hope to continue to see at the various car meets/shows of southern California.Thanks for letting us shoot your car and for buying us breakfast!

A took a while to get this coverage up due to the holidays and we've all been busy! The Dubfest charity show was a small, fun event at the Miro Warehouse in Brea, California. The event included some vendors, food and a raffle. Clubs such as Dubpound attended and a few even rolled up from Mexico. It was an overall good event that hopefully grows more in the years to come. Here are a few of the pics we took at the event.

Autocon 2011

This past weekend was Autocon 2011 in Irvine California. It was one of the most anticipated events of the year and was one of the best shows in socal. The number of quality cars was immense and the turnout was amazing. Everything from VIP cars to classic euros came through showing everyone what the car community has to offer. Autocon is only in its second year and will be growing more for next year.

If you live in Socal and didn't attend, then you better make sure you make the next one. Tons of models, coverage, food trucks and vendors attended, giving attendees lots of things to keep them busy. The organization of the event needed improvement since it took some time to enter the showgrounds. I'm sure the Autocon Staff will fix this for next year and make it better. Ill leave you with some highlights of the show.

The Avant that could!

I have the pleasure to introduce you to Randy Mull’s 2001 Audi S4 Avant. It’s been a tough journey for the S4, and Randy had various moments when he wanted to quit, but luckily he didn’t. This story goes back to when Randy was rolling around in a slammed pearl white B5 A4. He wanted a roof rack and decided to make a trip to buy one off another owner. When he showed up to the seller’s house, there was a salvaged S4 Avant just sitting around.

The owner asked Randy if he was interested in the S4 but assuming a premium price tag, he declined. The owner made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. It was a risky choice since the door and fender were busted and he was financially unstable due to changes in jobs. It was his girlfriend who told him that he would regret it if he didn’t buy it. Randy made a bold move and took the risk. He brought it home and the search for the parts began!

It took months for Randy to find the fender and the door for the S4. Once he got those fixed and a few other things, the S4 was ready for the road. Having two cars would make his wallet lighter so he sold his B5, but not before taking the ST coilovers and a few other goodies. Randy then installed the ST coilovers on it and slammed it on 18x8.5 fronts and 18x9.5 rear SL 500 AMG wheels with ECS Tuning 20mm all around. The final offset is an aggressive +13mm and man does it look great!

Nankang 215x40 tires are wrapped around every wheel for that stretched look. He had to roll and pull the fenders a bit to make it work but since that’s a hobby of his, he knew how to make it work. He even rolled the fenders on my A3! The 2.7 twin turbo V6 was also treated with Stage 2 APR software, APR downpipe and full exhaust, and K&N drop in filter good for about 320-340 HP.

He has lots of future plans for the car like new wheels and more engine mods but as most of us know, money slows down a project. Randy claims the one downfall of the car is all the maintenance and money spent keeping this car on the road. He had to change many things on his car like his power steering, timing belt, diverter valve and more; not a cheap or easy fix.

Before you begin to hate on his S4 because he slammed a performance car, remember he brought life to the salvaged S4 and created a car he loves. It was a long journey for Randy, but we are happy he kept to it and reminded us why we go through the hard longs days and nights of fixing a car: The best things are worth waiting for.

Rico's Suave Celica

So after a long night installing headers to Manny's Mazda B2000, we decided to go ahead and install a new exhaust system. It wasn't by choice. The B2000 was running with only headers on and was WAY too loud. We feared a ticket was inevitable. The following morning we went to Rico's Muffler and Exhaust shop down in Rubidoux, California and while we were there, we saw a immaculate Toyota Celica with an amazing Boso-inspired exhaust. We had to get a quick feature in!

Ricardo, the owner of Rico's Muffler and Exhuast, picked up this beauty for $400 about a year ago from the previous owner who thought it needed a new head gasket. It turns out that it only needed a few new parts and an oil change and it was good! What a lucky find! The paint on the car is original and Rico said it took him half a day to polish it. He's added roof racks and lowered the car. The current suspension setup wont let him lower it more, but he wants to try swapping out the suspension from another car to make it lower.

The wheels he's rockin are XXR 513s, which look great on the coupe. He doesn't need fancy wheels to make his Celica look great and shows you that you don't need expensive wheels like BBS or DPE. The engine is stock for now and claims a better upholstery is on its way.

Now on to the best part of the car: the Boso-inspired exhaust! Since he owns an exhaust shop, he definitely knows how to create a great looking exhaust system. The dual chrome pipe tips that reach the top of the trunk is a great touch to the car that you don't see everyday. Rico has future plans for the Celica but has created a Suave daily driver with a great stance!

Tony's Clean and Simple Audi A3

This beautiful and clean 07 Audi A3 S-Line belongs to our good friend Antonio Rocha. He picked it up in 09 and kept it clean and OEM+. He's been a fan of the OEM+ look and likes how it receives "Less attention but it's still modified so you don't get pulled over! It may look oem until you notice some of the features."

This car is daily driven and he drives it to a number of meets and shows, school and work. It's also his family car since he drives his daughter everywhere in a Recaro child seat. Tony's not new to the Euro scene and is a member of German Exclusiv where he helps out with shows like Oktoberfest.

Exterior work is subtle but includes a Cupra lip, Votex side skirts, shaved front bumper, black OEM S-Line grill w/ a plate delete, and a rear wiper delete. No crazy body kit here, just subtle cleanliness. As for performance mods, he has an APR stage 1 software, Eurojet PCV fix, and a Neuspeed P-flow intake. Tony's rollin on a set of BBS CKs 19x8 all around with 225/35 rubber.

To get the slammed stance he is on, an Air Lift full auto pilot digital kit was fitted w/ Air Lift slammed fronts and Airlift performance rears. A 5 gal tank is mounted in the trunk w/ Viair 400c compressor. He has fitted the air himself but wants to redo the lines. We even gave him a hand one night and helped remove the front sway bar.

He's happy with the outcome so far, but as all enthusiasts know, a car is never fully complete. In the future, Tony plans to redo the air setup in the trunk, notch the frame for more slammage, install a quad exhaust with an Oettinger rear bumper and a K04 upgrade. Tony has shown that he can create a smooth, clean car that anyone would be proud of.

Sideways Sundays 10/23/11

This past Sunday was the last Sideways Sundays of the year at Irwindale Speedway. This was my first time attending the meet and I was satisfied with the overall event. I paid ten bucks to get in and got my moneys worth. There was drifting all day and I was surprised to see a 1/8 drag strip near the back where some quick Hondas were handling. The show area was a bit small but there were some quality and rare cars to see. There were a few vendors and a concession stand feeding the crowd. It was an overall great event that needed a better turnout. I can't wait to see how much this events grows.

Black TT and White Wheels FTW!

This beautiful Audi TT belongs to Eduardo Lamas. We did a small photo shoot with him before but now that he got his wheels powder coated white and added spacers all around, we had to get a good feature in. The TT is still under the works but so far we're loving it.

He has owned the car for about 4 years now and maintenance has slowed down the modding. In fact, he has a new front bumper, side skirts, and rear bumper lying around for about a year now. We all know funds are what slow down a project, especially when you're young.

So far the 1.8T is pretty stock except for an APR ECU upgrade and an APR diverter valve. He also has a custom Magnaflow exhaust that ends with two big tips. He is rockin RSD coilovers all around w/ cut springs in the back since it didn't go low enough. He is currently saving up for H&R ultra lows for a stiffer setting.

The wheels are Raderwerks M-TEN80 BR one piece wheels. The front are 19x8.5 with 215 35 19 rubber. He also slapped 15mm spacers to the front for a more flush look. The rears are 19x9.5 with 225 35 19 rubber and 25mm spacers. Even though the list of future mods is long, we can't wait to see how the TT will end up.

Oktoberfest 2011 coverage

So a few buddies and I took a trip to Big Bear Lake this past weekend where Dub-Nation & Fifteen52 presented Oktoberfest 2011. This was my second year attending and I saw the number of cars and people grow from last year. Oktoberfest consisted of many events throughout the weekend such as the Rim of the World Cruise, Show and Shine, and Big Bear Lake cruise to the Alpine Slides.

Stanceworks also hosted a mini-meet at the Northwood Resort on Friday night called "Autumn Treffen," which means autumn meet in German.The main event at Oktoberfest was of course the drinking. The 41st annual Oktoberfest took place at the Big Bear convention center but some decided to pop open a keg and drink at one of the three host hotels.

Saturday morning arrived and the hungover euro-enthusiast crawled out of bed to attend the Show and Shine at the Snow Valley resort. There was plenty to see such as air limbo, vendors, and euro cars. Sadly, some of the pics we took had their faults and couldn't be posted but enjoy a few of the many we took.

Oemplus was one of the vendors attending. They even Vagcomed my car for free! Thanks Nick and the rest of the Oemplus guys.

September 18 2011. WFC set up a meet in Murrieta CA in a business park thanks to the host, VIP Tint. The quality of cars that attended was amazing and the meet was a big success. There were VIP cars, euro cars, and even a Boso inspired car. We had a great time and look forward to the next event.

My buddy Ian’s ride. He’s been working on it for 6 years and he has done some major work. He is a true hardcore car enthusiast and does most everything himself. This car still has a lot more to go but it is laying frame on custom built air ride.

Introducing Eddie's 2000 Audi TT. Its got an 1.8T under the hood chipped with an APR full program. It has Audi's famous Haldex all wheel drive system that can handle turns like a beauty! Eddie has owned the German machine for a couple years now and has tons of things left to do. As of now, he is sitting on some 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 flat black Raderworks wheels.

RSD coilovers handles the suspension with a custom spring in the rear. He is still looking to get spacers to make the wheels fit better, yet money is the biggest obstacle from getting the parts he wants. Luck also isn't in his favor since his car has been keyed and windshield chipped on a way to a show. He also got rear ended which has left a crack in his bumper. Hopefully his luck changes and things go his way.

On the bright side, Eddie has a body kit in his backyard storage ready to be painted and fitted, but again money is an issue. He is also thinking of some new wheels with polished lips and gold centers. I cant wait to see his car when the kit and stance is dialed in. Volkswagen's and Audi's rolled deep! I think there might have been more Volkswagen than any other makes. Many were dumped and a few were on air ride. Here are the ones that we had a chance to shoot. We were sad that we didnt get the chance to shoot more.

This is a beautiful Opel GT which many people may not know about. Opel is a German automaker that we Americans rarely ever see. This beauty was found at the Big Socal Euro G2G this past Saturday. I may not see another Opel again.

There were some clean Mercedes that rolled through this past Saturday. Ive always loved Mercedes Benz for their class, luxury and power. My friend owns a C320 from 2001 and the interior is simply gorgeous. Mercedes knows how to build some amazing cars. Here are some of the few Benz from the show:

Krispy Kreme Tuesday is a monthly meet in Burbank and the cars that attend range from civics to M3's. There were so many cars that it was impossible to capture em all! Cops were posted in every corner but that didn't scare the hundreds of cars that attended. There were many fitted cars but here are only a few of our favorite cars.

So we all know the Big Socal Euro brings in the most Euro cars in the west coast. 2300 cars in total to be exact. There were a few fresh cars that weren't Euro at all. Here are some pics of the non-Euro cars of the meet:

Immaculate GTR that was my favorite car of the show. Engine bay, interior and exterior were amazing. Props to the owner of such a beautiful car.

Bōsōzoku inspired Bimmer

Here's a car influenced a bit by the Boso style with the oil cooler bolted on the front. Looks amazing and its sitting right! We have been seeing some Boso inspried cars here in the states. We saw a few at Tab Tuesday and we can all agree that its something different and fresh. This car was captured at the annual Big Socal Gathering in San Diego. Props to Manny for the great pic.

Sonic Sundays

We started a new Meet in Rancho Cucamunga at a Sonics! We have a good turnout for our first meet with 10 cars and filled a row. Hopefully we can get this meet to get bigger. If you're ever free on a Sunday night come on down around 9:15PM to have a good time.
