VW Classic 2013: Irvine CA
June 8th 2013 marked the date of the annual VW Classic car show and swap meet at the Verizon Amphitheater in Irvine, California. It was my first time attending even though I've been planning on going for some years now. This is a huge show for all the air-cooled enthusiasts in California and neighboring states. Even though the majority of vehicles attending were air-cooled Volkswagens and Porsches, a few water-cooled cars managed to sneak in. The huge lot at the Verizon Amphitheater provided tons of space for the car show, vendors, swap meet, and attendees.
Type 1 & 2 Volkswagens made up most of the cars at the show, but there was huge differences in each one. Some people chose to bring the vehicles back to original condition, while others went for a rusted, slammed look. The amount of work and detail seen in the cars is proof of how amazing the air-cooled scene is.
Once you got done checking out the waves of VWs, a huge area for the swap meet would take an equally long time to get through. Anything from engines, cars, wheels, accessories and food was sold. There was also a few food trucks to feed the masses. The In-N-Out food truck looked tempting but the prices didn't. The event had lots to offer and while I did not stay long enough, I bet the day was enjoyed by all individuals attending. Hopefully I will be back again next year.
